Ottawa Valley Chapter
The Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society, Ottawa Valley chapter, (CPAWS,OV) has a "vision for this region [which] is bold and inspiring. We want to establish an interconnected network of protected areas centered around the Dumoine watershed. This will help protect the species at risk living in the area, form a connection between forests within the Ottawa Valley and the northern Boreal forest, boost local eco-tourism and promote a thriving natural landscape for our future generations to enjoy.”
Every summer they invite 15-20 artists to camp, canoe and hike alongside the Dumoine River. During this week, artists create artwork that is inspired by one of the few remaining undammed rivers in Canada. In return, the artists donate a piece of artwork which is sold in various galleries to help fund their conservation projects. Susan Fraser was able to participate in 2021, 2022, and 2023.
Valley Artisans' Gallery is their most robust venue for fundraising art shows. We host the CPAWS fundraising art show in May. In addition, Susan's greeting cards generate funds for CPAWS,OV throughout the year.
The CPAWS,OV has successfully obtained Aquatic Reserve status for the 126 Km Dumoine River and it's watershed lakes which feed it. CPAWS,OV is working on connecting that area to Algonquin Park with the Close the Gap campaign. Protecting that 18 Km corridor would allow for the free movement of animals between the southern hardwood forests and the northern Boreal forests for generations to come.
Cards for CPAWS
Susan Fraser's original artwork sells fast and leaves a trail of greeting cards in its wake. Everyone can have a small piece of her creativity to share with friends. On the back of each card is a short note about the inspiration for the original artwork.
Many of her landscape cards include a donation to the Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society, Ottawa Valley.
Miracle for Children Fundraiser
Since a lot of the materials I use are donated, all of the profit from the sale of my products goes to Charities… The Jabez Blanket Ministry International (which started it all) and other local grass root charities. I provide the labour at no cost, since crochet is also therapy for me. I love creating these useful accessories and then being able to help out worthwhile organizations.
Staying Clean Soap & Candle Company
Staying Clean Soap and Candle Company Inc. was started in 2023 to raise awareness about the crisis of addiction in society and to raise money for addiction treatment centers operating across Canada. One dollar from every product sale is donated to a Canadian addition treatment facility in the hopes that more people can be served when a choice is made to reach out for help.
Since inception, we have made multiple donations to not-for-profit treatment facilities and have been met with sincere appreciation from those working on the front lines of change. If you or a loved one has had a positive experience at a treatment facility and would like to nominate them for funds generated by our company, send us an email with details at: stayingcleansoapcompany@gmail.com.
